Art That Matters
An excerpt from my article, "Lighthouses as Inspiration" in the United States Lighthouse Society Newsletter.
I am drawn to lighthouses because of their noble past and precarious feature. For centuries lighthouses have faithfully served as guardians of the sea. Now the past and present are merging as lighthouses once again become drivers of commerce. Lighthouses are some of the most popular tourist destinations that fuel local economies. Many small and remote areas are dependent on lighthouses for their viability. Lighthouses are worthy of preservation for the benefit, livelihood and enjoyment of present and future generations.

My love of lighthouses has not only transformed the way I travel, but the way I live. When I am not traveling to a lighthouse, I am often reading, writing about or painting lighthouses. I've painted lighthouses in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, the United Kingdon and the Republic of Ireland. I am intrigued by the many varieties and designs of lighthouses. My favorite memories are of Lightship 95 and Milneburg Lighthouse. In these paintings, I capture their eternal essence-undaunted by time and circumstance.
