As Martin L. King, Jr. once said, "We may have come on different ships but we are in the same boat now." The Ambrose once was a floating lighthouse to guide ships. The lightship played a vital role during one of the greatest waves of immigration in US history.

Staten Island Lighthouse, NY

The Staten Island Lighthouse is located in Lighthouse Hill neighborhood in Staten Island. Designated a New York City landmark it is surrounded by modest and upscale homes with some built by Franklin Lloyd Wright. The lighthouse is not accessible by foot, so I sketched it at a distance.

Jeffrey's Hook Lighthouse was popularized by the book, The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Grey Bridge by Hildegarde Swift and illustrated by Lynd Ward. Because of letters from children the old lighthouse was saved after the construction of the new George Washington Bridge.
